Time On

Freelancing is great. Working at home is great. Nobody misses soul-sucking fluorescent lights of cubicle-land. But there are days when you recall how “cool English teacher” (not his real profession, just your secret name for him) brought Krispy Kreme donuts for everyone. (You called him cool English teacher because he was like slightly cooler than most people in your department, but the bar was low, and he was mostly really, really uncool. Also, he tried to buy love and affection and popularity with donuts. Muy cool Engligh teacher). 

But still. Free donuts.

Now let’s not get revisionist. Certain people were not as talented at making peanut butter m&m cookies (such a good idea!) as they thought they were. But in general you could count on any meeting with more than one department being catered with burritos or whatevs, and that was nice.

The lack of ambient snacks is especially acute around Christmas. So please be sure to find a nice coworking facility or whatever. Or if you’re really desperate, pay for your ambient office snacks and get your pumpkin spice latte on from a cafe.
